ACTION: Tell the City of Surrey to Rethink the 72nd Ave. Extension and Provide a Safe Space for People to Walk and Cycle
The City of Surrey (City) has approved an extension of 72nd Avenue from 152 Street to 176 Street. This extension will see the construction of a four-lane road with no safe, separated travel lanes for people walking or using other active transportation modes.
HUB Cycling and HUB's Surrey/White Rock Local Committee are concerned that this approved extension does not include space for safe, separated active transportation for vulnerable road users and does not align with the City of Surrey's Vision Zero safety goals, the City of Surrey's Transportation Plan aims, or the City's Climate Action Strategy targets.
HUB's Surrey/White Rock Local Committee calls on the City of Surrey to:
- further study the need for this road expansion project;
- study the impact on other priorities for transportation projects;
- state how this project meets the goals and pillars of the Transportation Plan;
- state how this project meets the goals of Vision Zero and
- state how this project meets the climate change goals in the Climate Change Action Strategy.
You can help! Email the Surrey City Council using the tool below, asking them to reverse this decision and include safe facilities for people of all ages and abilities to walk, cycle, or roll.
